Day 4 - 2 May (Namche - Pangboche)

Early start from Namche leaving at 7:10. Steep walk up behind the village then around the side of the mountain.
At the Hillary-Tenzing chorten we caught our first sight of Chomolungma - Mt Everest.

Spectacular views of Ama Dablam and Lhotse. Sunny and clear.
All of the team well and in really good spirits. Stopped at a fantastic little bakery with awesome apple pie - views of Everest.

Walked down to Phunki Tenga for a snack. Got cold real quick, so we all had to dash inside for soup and toast.
Steady crawl from there to Tengboche - very large monastery that is on the site of the first Lamas arrival from Tibet. He flew over the mountain and landed on the site and his footsteps are in stone at the entrance.

Lunch at the Tengboche monastery bakery: Spaghetti with tomato sauce and apple pie. Walk down through the rhododendron forest and then up to Pangboche.

Amazing views of Ama Dablam at sunset.

We pulled into the lodge at Pangboche at about 5:45. Team is pretty shattered. Rob and I lucked in and got a sit-down toilet!!
Playing it safe with spaghetti and tomato sauce again.
News of Osama bin Laden being killed reached us via text, but seems pretty inconsequential given what we're doing and where we are.
It's pretty cold tonight and was cold when we stopped this afternoon. Everyone is developing systems for cameras, coats etc.
The boys and ladies carrying enormous loads up the mountain are a sight to behold: sacks of rice, cases of tinned fruit, drums of cooking oil piled high. We see yak trains with their bells ringing laden high.

The little farmlets are a sight with their stone walls.

Tonight the lodge fire is heated with dried yak dung.
Pangboche is at 13,000 ft / 3950 metres
Accumulated 5,760 ft climb. Distance wise over half-way; Altitude over half-way.
93bpm / 88% 4 litres water.
